Visiting a Historic Attraction in Arthur’s Head, Fremantle
Do you love checking out new museums in your area? If you’re visiting Fremantle, there are a couple of local museums you may want to visit. However, if you are running a museum, you may want to learn online marketing techniques to encourage visitors and museum enthusiasts to take a look at your collection. As a leading branding strategist, Media on Mars creates effective, interactive and user-friendly websites that make it easy for tourists to discover and book a tour at a museum in Fremantle. They also create Wayfinding signage that seeks to create in-depth meaning to historical findings. If you need Fremantle graphic designers, Media on Mars is at 77 Stirling Highway, North Fremantle, Western Australia 6159.
Also in Western Australia lies the oldest public building in this hemisphere of the country. On the western end of High Street, Arthur’s Head, Fremantle stands the first permanent building in the Swan River Colony--The Round House. This high promontory also features great views of the Indian Ocean and Bathers Beach. Interesting enough, the Round House is also part of the Arthur head Arts Precinct. This 12-sided building was built as a “gaol” or jail in 1831. It served such purpose until 1886 to incarcerate those who broke the law. By the 1890’s, the “gaol” was turned into a police lock-up and then later as accommodation for the Water Police and further on as a storage facility for Fremantle Ports. Nowadays, the “gaol” is a popular attraction in Fremantle, telling the story of hardships that prisoners and convicts had in the past. There are tours available to help visitors learn and understand the story of “gaolers.”
The Fremantle historic attraction also has a tunnel beneath. It was built in 1837 by the Fremantle Whaling Company. The tunnel connects Fremantle town to Bathers Beach. There is also a sound signal and a dropping time ball that was used to signal navigators entering Fremantle Harbour. Nowadays, a reenactment of the ceremony takes place and a visitor may be invited to fire the sound signal as the Honorary Gunnery Officer.
